What does making movies have to do with researching and designing user experiences?
Everything:
- Contextual inquiry and user interviews are like directing non-actors.
- Journey maps and user flows are plot-driven narratives.
- User personas are empathy-driven character creation.
- Generating and presenting research synthesis are both thematic storytelling.
When I realized this connection between story and User Experience, my whole world opened up—and I bring this unique mix of creative writing, analytic philosophy, and narrative logic to every research project.
I'm a life-long learner, and I relish the chance to become a SME in my client's field. It's rewarding to know that what I learn and analyze helps make business more profitable and users' lives better!
Finally, being constantly learning gives me even more opportunities to teach and mentor those around me. I'm a teacher at heart, and so I love learning about others' areas of expertise in addition to sharing my own knowledge.
